Thanks for this great piece, Allison. You crystallize exactly why cancel culture is not productive and doesn't help those who have been oppressed. We can't take down Confederate statues from town squares and call it a day. We can't cancel Critical Race Theory just because it makes people uncomfortable and feel bad about themselves (sorry, this part almost makes me want to laugh because it's so infantile and ridiculous), as Walter Rhein argues. Removing racist classics from Netflix has the same problem - if we don't learn about the existence and content of such movies, how will we learn from them? We need to have difficult conversations so that the country learns from its past mistakes and acknowledges the pain it continues to cause Black Americans.
